Local Park Regeneration
- Iris Brickfield park in Heaton is undergoing a £45 000 facelift thanks to Newcastle City Council
Udecide program. Already the park has had bat and bird boxes installed and the pond will be improved
to help attract wildlife. Also, new seats, picnic tables and litter bins are on order to spruce up
the area.
A glossy leaflet has issued to local schools with a list of options for play equipment. The six choices
include multisport wall, several play units, a climbing boulder and a funtrail. These are to replace the
existing tired looking equipment in the two play areas. The final decision on what equipment will be
installed will be made at a grand voting event to be held on 20th May.
The event is jointly arranged by Ben Grant (Enviro Schools Officer) Stephen Green (Neighbourhood Response
Manager) and Amanda Watson (Recreation Development Officer)
Free Low Energy Light Bulbs
- Over the next few weeks throughout Heaton Warm Zone staff will be visiting households with offers
of cheap wall and loft insulation as well as free energy saving lightbulbs. The Warm Zone project is part
of a citywide drive to improve household energy efficiency and tackle fuel povety. Even if households do not
take up the offer of insulation, free low energy lightbulbs are still available. All Warm Zone door-to-door
staff wear the Warm Zone uniform and carry identification. For further information about the project call
0191 277 7373.
